Description

Okayti Wonder 1st Flush comes from the renowned Okayti Tea Estate.  Spread over 647-hectares of majestic flora and fauna along the Mechi River. Its tea bushes are planted at a height of 4000ft to 6800ft above sea level along the Mirik Valley. This 150-year-old tea garden is one of the most picturise Darjeeling Tea estates along the Indo-Nepal border. Teas from the estate are the acclaimed world over for their superior. This wonderful tea once brewed produces a delicately captivating liquor, enriched by a beautiful floral aroma unique to first flush teas. Encapsulating the small two leaves and bud from the first harvest of the season marking the start of spring. These beautiful leaves are plucked in April and are exclusively made for Teafields.

Okayti Tea Estate belongs to the renowned Kumbhat Family who have protected the legacy of this estate and taken it forward with each generation.

The tea estate was originally called RANGDOO and was planted as early as the 1870s by the British. Teas from Rangdoo exhibited exceptional quality and a distinctive taste due to its unique soil conditions, location and other important agro-climatic conditions. Within a short span of time, the popularity of Rangdoo teas soared in the London tea auctions and soon it came to be known as “THE ONLY OKAY TEA”. The tea estate was then rechristened to “OKAYTI TEA ESTATE”.

Okayti Tea Estate is also credited to have one of the oldest tea factories of the region dating back to the year 1888.

Darjeeling has some of the most difficult terrains for anyone to work under. The skill of the tea pluckers is tested under these conditions. After all, they are the first point of call in creating this wonderful tea. It is this dedication to fine plucking of the perfect two leaves and bud which ensures the creation of a tea called Okayti Wonder.
